Installing a mailbox is not difficult. In some cases, it might be just digging a hole, planting the post, and packing dirt back into the hole to hold the post straight and level.
If you have a landscaper, they are most likely very familiar with removing and installing a new mailbox. You might consider speaking with them about doing the installation for you. And of course any "handyman", handy neighbor, handy relative - might be able to help you with installation.
We have an experienced guy who offers a simple mailbox and post installation service between the months of April thru November. He installs metal posts in concrete...and he installs wood/vinyl posts in gravel. Concrete is not recommended around wood posts because the block of concrete absorbs/retains moisture and keeps the wood post below ground saturated, whereas gravel will allow any water accumulation to dissipate.
He does not install Wall Mount Mailboxes.
The one issue with our installer... because we don't get many installation requests... is that he's only willing to travel about a 10-15 mile distance from his Brentwood location. Generally speaking... this will include the Suffolk Townships of Huntington, Smithtown, Islip, and Babylon, plus the Nassau Township of Oyster Bay.
He charges $125.00 ($150.00 for Azek/Vinyl Mailbox Posts and Whitehall units, because they're more involved, and he needs to shop and purchase the 4x4 wood core). If you live in the Townships mentioned above, and need installation of any mailbox and post package we sell, please add a note "I need installation" in the message box on our order form during checkout.
When you request installation:
1) We will confirm your request via email 2) We will re-direct your order to be delivered to us. 3) The installer will open, inspect, and pre-assemble the item in advance. 4) Once everything is here and checked, the installer will call to make an appointment. 5) Once the job is completed, and you are satisfied, payment (only cash) can be made to the installer directly.
The only complication might be your existing mailbox... or the location of your existing mailbox. Once we have your address, we'll "google-map" your location to try and anticipate potential problems. For example... you may have installed your existing mailbox post 20 years ago when the tree next to it was young. Now all these years later... the tree is huge... and the root system is so dense... poking a new hole through might not be possible.
Also, if your existing mailbox post is anything larger than a "standard" size mailbox post... meaning larger than a 4x4 wood post or 3" round metal post, it could be a problem. Existing "standard" mailbox posts get cut at ground level and hammered down below ground. Not a problem. That "cutting down" service is included in the price.
BUT... if you have something larger and different than "standard" size, it may present problems beyond the simple installation service we offer. If you have something out of the ordinary, it may need to be removed before the installer arrives.
We check the "streetview" offered in Google-Maps to try to identify complicated installations in advance.
I hope this clarifies the basic installation service we currently offer.
